The illustrated dust jacket shows extensive edge and corner wear, rubbing, scuffing, creasing, scratches, chips, and tears. The front panel has substantial wear along the top and bottom edges, losses at the corners and spine ends, and a larger missing section along the lower-left spine fold. Several closed and open tears are visible, together with general surface rubbing and handling marks.
The rear jacket panel has a large irregular area of paper loss across the upper-left corner and adjoining edge, exposing the cloth board beneath. Additional chips, tears, creasing, rubbing, discoloration, and edge loss are present along the lower edge and right fold.
The copyright page appears clean and clearly legible. No signature, inscription, bookplate, or ownership marking is visible in the supplied photographs.
The title page, jacket spine, jacket flaps, hardcover boards, book spine, page edges, hinges, endpapers, and complete interior were not fully photographed and therefore cannot be completely assessed. Jacket price and price-clipping status are unverified.
COLLECTOR’S NOTE
The sixteenth printing reflects the title’s rapid early commercial success following its 1960 publication. Although later than the first printing, the period hardcover format and surviving illustrated jacket give the copy more visual and historical interest than an ordinary jacketless reading copy. The substantial jacket loss has been reflected in the condition grade and price.
