The copyright page explicitly states “First Edition” and “Limited to One Thousand Copies.” Published by Hill Junior College in Hillsboro, Texas, the volume includes historical illustrations and concludes with Lee’s farewell address to the Army of Northern Virginia, reproduced on the rear dust-jacket panel.
The Davis and Stephens studies originally appeared separately in periodicals during the late nineteenth century and were collected here with editorial material by noted Texas Civil War historian Harold B. Simpson.

The cream-colored dust jacket shows light age toning, faint rubbing and surface marks, minor edge and corner wear, and a small nick or short closed tear near the upper edge of the rear panel. The front panel remains clean and visually attractive, with the red title lettering and portrait illustration clear and unfaded. The rear panel, reproducing Robert E. Lee’s farewell address, is legible and generally well preserved.
The visible red cloth binding appears clean along the exposed upper edge. The copyright page is clean and clearly legible, with no visible writing, staining, or foxing.
The jacket spine, jacket flaps, full boards, book spine, page edges, hinges, endpapers, title page, and complete interior were not photographed and therefore cannot be fully assessed. No signature, inscription, bookplate, or ownership marking is visible in the supplied photographs.
